A message from the race directors

To Everyone a Huge Thank you for making the Solent Half Marathon on Sunday such a huge success. This is your club event but without your support, time, handwork and enthusiasm it would not happen.

Once more the weather was on our side & once more we had a full entry of runners. Already we have received many positive messages and thank yous from those runners taking part.

Kind Regards

Chris and Mick.

Medical emergency

We had a medical emergency at Exbury which you may have seen.  We are pleased to report that everything worked out well and the lady concerned has fully recovered.

Feedback from runners

Just wanted to say thank you for a fabulous race yesterday. The marshals were fab, the weather and the course. Loved it.

Best bit though were the vests. Love it. Thanks for being brave and choosing vests, not sure why no-one else does.

They will be an object of desire in our club (WADAC) I am sure. (the vest not the wearer!)

Thanks again,

Thanks to all involved in putting on this event all went very well many marshals along route plenty of and very encouraging

Thanks again to all

Thanks for a great race today!

Lovely course, fantastic marshals and a vest makes a nice change from a medal.

Thanks again, see you next year!

Dave (IOW Road Runners)

Just had a friend from Farnham ask me to pass on his thanks for today :) it was a great, well organised race, with an ace vest. Thank you team!!! Well done!!!

Dear Mick and Chris
Just a short note to thank and congratulate on a well-organised half marathon yesterday. I live over in Bournemouth so hadn't been before but it was all very good.

I found it easy to get to and helped by adequate signposting and instructions in pre-race email. The marshals for the parking did a good job. During the run, it's a demanding course, but lovely and quiet and all the marshals and drinks stations were well placed. Had no issues with traffic despite being open road.

I have to say it's probably the first race I've ever done where every mile marker was within a metre or two of where my watch thought they should be. I know course measurement take precedence but us runners do tend to stare at our gadgets and think they are the be-all and end-all. It may just have been coincidence but it was a nice-to-have.

If I have any suggestion for improvement it's only that the volume for the announcing be turned down. It made it difficult to find a quiet place to talk post-run especially if you wanted to sit near the finish funnel and applaud others finishing. But perhaps that's my middle-aged ears beginning to fail me!!

Many thanks to all the volunteers, marshals and yourselves for your time and efforts in staging an excellent, decently priced race in a lovely area. In the past I did New Forest 1/2 at this time of year but I preferred the smaller, club feel of your event. Will likely be back again next year.

Best regards,

Comments from Hardley Runners

Mark Causebrook: Great support today on the course and race organisation!

Roy Van Hal: What a great day at our Half Marathon yesterday. It was great to meet up with so many old friends.

Dan Powell: Didn't pace it very well at all and blew up at 8 miles so the last 5 miles were literally a case of hanging on for dear life .  Managed 1.40 in the end!

Emma Rogers: My first "competitive" half. Almost gave up at mile 11, but I had Jack Fairbrother by my side to keep me going to the finish. Really happy to get sub 2.5 hours

Graham Robbins: Fantastic event and well done to everyone.

Litter - a message from the tail runner

As tail runner one of my less pleasant duties is picking up used gel wrappers dropped on the road.  Dropping them at water stations is fine.  Dropping them by mile markers is acceptable but dropping them randomly in the road is not.  This year I picked up 17 and they were horribly sticky.  Please follow the example of people who bring a plastic bag and put their wrapper in it and dispose of it at the finish.
